Smith College- Assistant Prof. Latin American & Latino/a/x Studies
The Latin American and Latino/a Studies Program at Smith College invites applications for a tenure-track position in Latinx Studies at the rank of Advanced Assistant Professor to begin July 1st, 2026. A Ph.D. in the social sciences or Latinx Studies, two years of full-time teaching experience or the equivalent at the rank of Instructor or above, and a robust publication record and/or plan are required. Successful candidates should be prepared to engage actively with diverse students across the liberal arts. Teaching responsibilities for this position will regularly include an introductory course to Latinx Studies (100-level) as well as colloquiums (200-level) and seminars (300-level) related to the candidate’s field of specialization. We are particularly interested in candidates whose research and teaching interests are grounded in the social sciences and the study of “biopolitics,” broadly understood. We expect successful applications to be related to one or more of the following social processes or dynamics: the governance and practices of migration; the making and unmaking of urban geographies; the economies of gender and sexuality; reproductive rights and public health; technological interventions on the web of life; the ecology of the human and more-than-human; and other interrogations of the structures of power that impinge on “life processes” and build upon a philosophical and sociological tradition centered on “biopower.”
