X Marks the Spot: Latinx + Gen X in Higher Ed

We are delighted to invite submissions for X Marks the Spot: Latinx + Gen X in Higher Ed, an edited collection of testimonios from Latinx academics who identify as Generation X (born between 1965–1980) discussing their experiences in the American Higher Education system.

We welcome submissions of previously unpublished testimonios (between 2500 to 3750 words in length and double spaced) from academics and administrators working across the disciplines and types of institutions. Topics may include, but are not limited to:

  • Your journey through higher education: What or who inspired you to be on this pathway, and what or who has kept you here?
  • Ways you have engaged in equity and social justice through your work in the academy
  • How your journey in the academy shaped your ethno-racial identity
  • How your racial and/or ethnic identity has informed your career choices
  • Racist incidents you have experienced in the academy and how those have impacted your education and your work
  • The role of class in your educational and professional experiences
  • The intersections of race, ethnicity, sex, and sexuality in your academic experience
  • Your relationship to any of the civil rights movements of the 1960s-70s and/or other related political and social movements since then
  • Strategies you developed to navigate the challenges of academia

Deadline: Submit a Proposal by October 25, 2024
Please submit to the co-editors, Magdalena Barrera (magdalena.barrera@sjsu.edu) and Ray Hernández-Durán (rhernand@unm.edu), a 250-word proposal for your testimonio that identifies the primary themes of your piece by October 25, 2024. Please include a 100-word biography and full contributor contact information. The subject line of the submission must be “Abstract – [Author Name] – X Marks the Spot.”
