Chair, Chicano and Latino Studies, University of Minnesota
The Department of Chicano and Latino Studies, College of Liberal Arts, invites applications for an academic leader and scholar to serve as department chair, with an expected start date of fall semester 2023 (08/29/2023). The chair should have academic credentials commensurate with an appointment at the rank of associate or full professor with tenure. A Ph.D. or foreign equivalent in a related field is required. Salary is competitive.
The chairship is a 100%-time position, 12-month position and will be made at the rank of either associate or full professor with tenure. The typical length of chair appointment is three years (renewable). Regular faculty appointments are 100% time over the nine-month academic year (late August to late May), as consistent with collegiate and university policy.
The ideal candidates will be those with a distinguished record of scholarship, teaching, advising, and service in Chicana/o/x Studies and/or Latina/o/x Studies as well as administrative experience at a research institution. We are looking for someone who has demonstrated a potential for strong academic leadership, will serve as an outstanding faculty colleague and mentor, and can represent our department to the wider college, university, and community.
Applicants from all disciplines are invited to apply. We are especially interested in candidates whose scholarship will add to and complement existing departmental strengths and faculty research. In particular, we seek to expand our Latina/o/x Studies curriculum and research portfolios with scholarship on Central American, South American, and/or Caribbean communities in the United States.
