Barnard College: Lecturer, Spanish and Latin American Cultures

The Spanish and Latin American Cultures Department at Barnard College is searching for a Lecturer to join the faculty for the 2025-2026 Academic Year.

Teach first- and second-year language courses (SPAN UN1101, 1102, 2101, 2102), with the possibility of developing third-year bridge courses (SPAN UN3300). Training/experience in some areas of Spanish and Latin American Cultural Studies in addition to foreign language pedagogy is a plus. Teaching load is 3/3. Non-teaching duties include maintaining an active research profile, advising undergraduate students, and participating in service committees at the departmental and college levels.

Language instruction in our department is geared to providing students the skills they need to use Spanish competently in all environments: personal, public, occupational, and educational. Our chosen teaching methodologies, adaptable to individual learning styles, are based on the Task-Based Approach, cognitive grammar, and the Project Approach. We use the textbook Proyectos for all our language courses.

Lecturers are reviewed in their third year of full-time service, with the possibility for reappointment and consideration for promotion in the seventh year; subsequent reviews typically occur on a seven-year cycle.

The exact instructional assignments and other academic responsibilities are determined by the Chair or Director.
