Assistant Professor of English
The English Department at Southwestern University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Latino/a/x-Chicano/a/x literature and culture. Secondary specialties are open, but candidates able to contribute courses in high-demand areas including creative writing, film, popular culture, and new media studies are particularly encouraged to apply. The successful applicant will teach a broad range of courses, including introductory surveys of American Literature and upper-level seminars in areas of research specialization, and will offer courses that contribute to our interdisciplinary Latin American and Border Studies, International Studies, and/or Race and Ethnicity Studies programs. The teaching load is 3/2, and English faculty rotate in First Year Seminar, Introduction to Literary Studies, literary theory and the senior Capstone. Campus-wide responsibilities include advising students and university service.
Southwestern is committed to the teacher-scholar model; we seek candidates with a commitment to teaching undergraduates and pursuing scholarship in a liberal arts college and offer strong ongoing support for scholarly development, including robust pre- and post-tenure sabbatical programs, funding for conferences, archival travel, opportunities for collaborative research, and low (below 20) average class sizes. The PhD must be in hand by August 2023.
