Call for Proposals: LSA 2026 Conference

Latino Studies at the University of Texas at Austin invites those who study the peoples, cultures, histories, and structures that continue to define our field to submit proposals for the 2026 LSA conference to be held on the UT campus in Austin, Texas, March 26-29, 2026.

This year’s conference is offered without a theme to honor the fact that in the present moment, there are many urgent issues that require our collective expertise and attention. We invite proposals from all methodologies deemed relevant to our interdisciplinary field, and ask only that proposals take seriously the urgency of our collective experiences of solidarity and survival-past, present, and future.

PROPOSAL SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:

The LSA Executive Council welcomes proposals with diverse formats but will give preference to organized panels, roundtables, and workshops. Individual presentations and other creative formats will also be considered. Panels, workshops, roundtables, individual papers and posters that engage in interdisciplinary rather than monodisciplinary approaches will be prioritized for inclusion in the conference. Likewise, proposals that include a diverse group of participants (multiple disciplines, methodologies, ranks, and/or institutions) are highly encouraged.

Individuals may participate as a PRESENTER on only one panel, roundtable or workshop. The same individual may take a second role at the conference as CHAIR or DISCUSSANT for their own or another panel, roundtable or workshop.

Proposals in Spanish or Spanglish are welcome.

Proposals will be accepted and reviewed in Oxford Abstracts. If you are new to Oxford Abstracts, you will be prompted to create a free profile via the abstract submission links contained in the proposal categories below.

Please direct any questions regarding proposals and Oxford Abstract submissions to lsassocinfo@gmail.com

Generally, organized panels should consist of one chair and 3-4 presenters. Chairs can be among the panel presenters. If an individual is both chairing and presenting on the same panel, there should only be 4 total participants.

All proposals must include the following:

  • A title for the panel (15 word max)
  • 250-word abstract of the panel
  • Names, affiliations and role of all participants (chair, discussant &  presenters)
  • 1-3 disciplines or areas of inquiry reflected in the proposal
  • 3-5 topics or keywords that represent the proposal
  • A 250-word abstract for each paper in the panel
    • The panel submitter will be instructed to invite panel participants to attach their individual paper abstracts after the full panel proposal is submitted in Oxford Abstracts.

LSA welcomes proposals for roundtables and creative or skill-building workshops.

Generally, roundtables should consist of one chair and/or discussant who will engage multiple participants and the audience in a dialogue on a proposed topic. Like a roundtable, workshops should generate dialogue on a proposed topic but should also involve more structured audience participation, including more specific problem solving, skill building or creative expression.

All proposals must include the following:

  • A title for the roundtable or workshop
  • A 250-word description
  • Names, affiliations and role of all participants (chair, discussant, presenters, facilitator etc.)
  • 1-3 disciplines or areas of inquiry reflected in the proposal
  • 3-5 topics or keywords that represent the proposal

In an effort to further embrace the interdisciplinarity of our field and promote engagement with our colleagues in the social sciences, education, and public health, LSA will accept poster submissions. A limited number of 15 posters will be accepted for an inaugural in-person poster session. Posters will also be featured in the poster gallery on the conference website. The program committee will prioritize posters that demonstrate clear engagement with Latinx Studies as a critical mode of inquiry within their research as opposed to proposals that merely present research on Latinx populations. Accepted submissions will be expected to upload their posters one week before the conference

Poster submissions must include:

  • A title (max 15 words)
  • A 250-word abstract
  • Name and affiliation of all authors
  • 1-3 disciplines or areas of inquiry reflected in the proposal
  • 3-5 topics or keywords that represent the proposal
  • Agree to upload a 1-page PDF of the poster by March 18, 2025 if accepted.
